Aussies love their pets that’s for sure, me included!
They are great companions and caring for your pet can be an amazing experience. With so many people loving their pets, it’s no surprise you may be looking for your own home, or a larger backyard for your pet.
Renting can be tough when the owners are not pet friendly, so finding your home is even more important to avoid the notices to leave your home. Moving home is a costly exercise – I’m seeing costs of $7000 for bond/rent and removalists without the bond clean.
Living expenses for pets may increase your living expenses – there is the cost of food, exercise (doggy day care for example), pet sitting if you travel away for your job, vet expenses, tick & flea and worming, etc.
These days, lenders have a separate category for pet expenses, so depending upon how luxurious your taste is, your expenses can be considered as “additional”.
If you run a business does this still apply? That is a good question, and it depends if your business includes your pet as a guard dog, or if you have a business involving the buying and selling of animals as well. Your business may very well pay for your pet expenses! Check with your accountant before you rush to make your pet a tax deduction because it is easy to get it wrong and we want to avoid this!
